The new Purchas book is set in Windsor- a town I've never visited in real life. Thanks to the Web, I now know the centre of Windsor as well as my own back yard. I also know a thing or two about the Duke of Suffolk (a charming louse) and I've been reading those theses that Luther pinned to the church door in Wittemburg.
Interesting fact: The Pope was selling indulgences as a way of raising money to build the new St Peter's in Rome. Just another way in which the Renaissance led on to the Reformation. If it hadn't been for those scummy indulgences we wouldn't have had Michelangelo's dome.
