I watched Adam Curtis's Bitter Lake- his film about Afghanistan. It was made in 2015- which makes it almost contemporary- but since then we've had Trump, Brexit, Covid- and the themes that obsess us (by "us" I mean our politicians and media) have changed completely- and those six years might just as well be sixty...

I haven't seen the movie...but I'm betting for the average Afghani, very little has meaningfully changed in *their* lives that whole time. Taliban, drugs, warlords, struggling government, etc. Wash, rinse, repeat.

The media only shows that there talibans in afg but they don’t show that how much and where they are. Media doesn’t show the reality bro AFG is a peaceful country people are very nice but the politics is trash and the media shows only the trash.

There's a scene where the Brits arrive in a village and tell the elders they've come to fight the Taliban on their behalf and the elders say, "We don't care about the Taliban, just get Karzai and his cronies off our backs."
