Joe filled up his car with water and oil, drove to the bottom of the road and the clutch cable broke.

So we wound up driving him to Bolton.

It was a good interview. The guy says he'd employ him like a shot but first he (Joe)has to get the qualification he's already started working towards. So that's three weeks intensive study and....

Item: 3 Weeks Course work- £440
Item: I new clutch- £ 70

Total: £510

But it'll be worth it in the long run.

Right?

Bolton as in "Lord Scope of Bolton"?

It's a lovely place, as I recall, and not all that far from Middleham. Isn't that a long slog, th ough?

It must be a different Bolton. I believe there are several.

I don't think anyone has ever described this Bolton as a "lovely place".

It's a large town to the North of Manchester, chiefly notable for its truly fantabulagorical town hall.

Oh. "My" Bolton is just across the dale from Middleham and it chiefly notable for its castle.

I imagine a fantabulagorical town hall would be remarkably photogenic, hint, hint.

there's a Bolton, Massachusetts. my best friend and her family moved there after sixth grade because Framingham was "too settled" for them.

It seems like it's worth it. I mean, Joe had already started working toward the qualification, and he needs that car to work no matter what, yes?

I think so.

Yes, he can't do without the car and the qualification ought to be his passport to the job he dreams of doing.

I guess I don't want to tempt the gods by being too sure.

Three weeks is all? That's wonderful.

Yes, worth it in the long run.

He has to memorise a lot of stuff about human anatomy etc. He doesn't seem to find it difficult.

Is there any financial help available for the qualification? Here in Wales we have things called ILAs (Individual Learning Accounts) for people on low income who don't have qualifications. You contact LearnDirect about them. 0800 100 900

Good luck to Joe in his quest for a new job.

I don't know if he'd qualify. But provided things go to plan we've got it all worked out. The course is paid for now and all he has to do is get the work done then reapply for the job.

But I'll bear ILAs in mind
