AI is still in its infancy. It doesn't understand what it's doing. It may misinterpret your instructions (in fact that's the norm) or even directly go against them. Also like any apprentice artist, it finds hands and feet difficult. Don't interrogate your character's extremities too closely; you may find thay have extra fingers and toes.

Here's an utter car crash of an image...

I wanted two effigies lying on an altar tomb. Something like this, the famous Fitz-Alan tomb in Chichester Cathedral:

So I wrote a prompt that began "A knight and his lady lying on a tomb..."

And what I got was this

Oh my!

And now count the legs. Useful things, legs! She seems to have three of them while he doesn't have any....

 Is it art?

If you can come up with a definition of art that everyone agrees with I'll attempt to answer that question.

Is it soulless?

It's a tool that was created by people with souls and used by people with souls so, briefly, "No"

Hotspot is very good at landscape, light, atmosphere, seasons of the year and times of day. It also has a grasp of geography.

In my first set of images there was one of a pilgrim walking through a landscape in Spain and I thought it felt admirably Spanish. Now here's his English cousin walking through a landscape in Kent and- apart from the church ressembling none that I've seen in Kent (and I've seen most of them)- everything else feels very Kentish. The season of the year that I asked for was early Spring- and that's been captured too.
