Earnest And Troubled
Aug. 16th, 2022 08:04 am George Fox- an earnest and troubled young man- is seeking spiritual guidance from a 17th century clergyman.
He has sought spiritual guidance from a number of 17th century clergyman. Perhaps this friendly parson will be the Father in God he feels he needs.
They are walking in the clergyman's garden, talking ardently, when Fox's foot slips off the narrow path and lands in a lovingly tended flower-bed.
The clergyman starts ranting and raving. (I nearly wrote "goes ballistic" but that wouldn't be very 17th century.)
Fox is taken aback...
...And is beginning to form the opinion that an expensive education at Oxford or Cambridge is not enough to turn a man into a priest...
