Window Cleaners

Ailz engaged a firm of window cleaners. What with seagulls and salt sea breezes we need them. I was expecting ladders and chammy leathers but instead they had a brush on a long pole that was attached to a hose that was fed from the tank of distilled water in their van.

Distilled water is preferable to tap water, they said, because it doesn't smear.

Our Neighbour's Cock

Ailz comes downstairs from the bedroom. "When you go back up," she says, "Take a look at our neighbour's cock."

"What?"

"He's put a cock in his garden."

It's not a herm of course, though that would have been unimpeachably classical. Our bedroom commands a fine view of next door's garden and what's there that wasn't there yesterday is a life-sized model of a rooster. Ailz reckons it'll light up at night- that it's a solar cock- but I've squinnied at it through the telephoto on my camera and I think it's just a metal sculpture- painted black with white speckles. Come nightfall and we'll see who's right...

"A solar cock"- what a thought!

It gives me ideas I'd never dare execute. Not in suburban Eastbourne, anyway.....
