Oh Sleep It Is A Gentle Thing...

I was getting up at seven thirty but now, with the lengthening days, I'm getting up at seven. I don't sleep well- and last night I had a dream that was all about not sleeping well in which was staying at a hotel and my bedroom was also a great open hall- in which people were doing all sorts of things- including playing the piano.

Around midnight, either before or after the dream (I forget which) my mother called for me and I went in and she asked me what was going on and I said "Nothing" and she said something was- but then lost her drift and apologised for getting me out of bed...

More Than I Bargained For

I took a load of out-of-date tax papers to the burn site, put them down alongside a winter's worth of accumulated garden rubbish and struck a match. We've had a spell of dry weather. A few minutes later Lee next door rang Ailz to ask if we knew there was a huge fire in our field.

It was under control, sort of, but I was having to stand well clear.

Harold Goes To War

I've finished Vol 1 of the Nicolson Diaries. '38 and '39- with Hitler casting an ever inkier shadow- are not an easy read. Now for The War. I'm not a huge admirer of Winston Churchill but Harold was- and it'll be interesting how we rub along together over the next five years....
