It's a daily routine: I go out mid morning, stop by the place where Julia dumps the garden waste, pick out some clods or turfs, carry them down hill to the pond and deposit them on the dam. Sometimes I make the trip more than once. This morning, what with the air being full of water, I did it just the once.

And so the dam grows in size- by tiny increments. I don't dig any longer because digging crocks up my back. I'm looking forward to the growing season- surely due to start any time now- so I can stop building and let the grass and weeds turn my heap of miscellaneous rubbish into a natural land formation.
