Leaves, Turfs, Wrens and Quadrupeds
Oct. 19th, 2020 09:46 amAs soon as I entered the lower field a slight breeze ruffled the trees and the air was filled with falling leaves. It felt like a greeting.
Julia has been edging flowerbeds. I gathered some of the turfs she'd cut- and carried them down to the pond, where I used them to reinforce the dam. The cat came with me- as he often does- and the wrens in the nearby bush were not best pleased to see either of us. I counted three of them- all hopping around and spraying out sound like miniscule machine-gunners.
I do like wrens.
I had told Ailz I'd count the horses and donkeys to see if the Chrises had added or subtracted any. They hadn't. We still have four. They had gathered in the shady nook up against the boundary that I fenced off in the spring- which I now think was rather a mean thing to do. (Also unnecessary because the neighbour's 8 ft chainlink is more than enough to contain them.) Anyway, my artistically woven fence is now no more- kicked to bits and scattered- and I've learned my lesson.
