I Gave Up On It; More Fool Me...

We had neglected the kitchen garden. By the end of last year it was such a wilderness that I asked Matthew to go in and strim everything to the ground- and he did. "So that's an end of that," I thought. "Perhaps we'll repurpose it as an orchard or- with even less upkeep required- a wildflower garden."

But this year Julia (ignoring my instructions) has taken it in hand. The currant and berry bushes have grown back and she's nurtured them- and they're bearing fruit like never before. Also she's planted potatoes, tomatoes, garlic, onions.

And she's rediscovered paths I had no idea were there.

I've just picked enough raspberries and loganberries for a meal...
