We hadn't been to Bexhill for months and it was nice to see it was still there. Our favourite "antique" shop was shut as it so often is but- never mind- I own enough junk already.

The owner is a curmudgeon. Unlike Robert of Robert's Rummage in Hastings who is a sweetie. Dickens would have loved them both.

"But it's a new world, a new world, isn't it" said Matt Frei of Channel 4 News to the man who was something to do with Heathrow and still hoping for a third runway in spite of the Appeals Court saying he couldn't have one.

A New World? I'd like to think so.

The ruling comes at a time when fears about the spread of the coronavirus are hitting the airlines hard, and cities across the world are going into lockdown and the Saudis have just announced they are shutting Mecca and Medina and the Pope has been photographed blowing his nose so maybe Rome will be next...

And will we suffer so very much if there are fewer winged behemoths chugging their way through the sky? Does getting away from it all really have to involve going up in the air in one place and coming down in another? Do we have to be so literal about taking flight? And as for international conferences and prize giving ceremonies aren't they exactly what virtual reality was invented for?
