Fancy doing that for a day. And then day after day. In winter too. Begging is hard work.
And essentially harmless. You're causing the world less grief than you would if you worked in one of those cold-calling centres. Or, indeed, at lots of other "proper" jobs. Investment banking, for instance...
The two guys we had dealings with yesterday were youngish men; they looked tired and unhappy. I think they were probably Eastern European- so not only on the streets but on the streets of a strange town.
Of course we gave them money.
