Lt Col Charles William Owen (1853-1922) was a military doctor in India- serving as personal surgeon to General Roberts and afterwards as medical advisor to the Maharajah of Patiala. Having returned home, he took the post of Director of the Sussex division of the British Red Cross. His memorial window in Westham church isn't particulary impressive as a work of art but the subject matter is unusual. The central light shows St Luke "the beloved physician"- flanked by lights depicting a European doctor at work in India and Red Cross volunteers tending the wounded in the Great War.
