The Sunny Side Of The Street

Donald Trump isn't so very different from other US presidents, it's just that he doesn't pretend to be high-minded.  If Hillary had been president she'd almost certainly have been threatening to blitz Syria too- only she wouldn't have used the language of the playground. 

Trump has stripped his office of its dignity. Since the dignity was never much more than lipstick and blusher this may not be such a bad thing.  With Trump we're seeing the exercise of imperial power in all its intrinsic ugliness.  

Yes I know....but I'm determined to find  something positive to take away from this present lamentable state of affairs.

Fairy Ring

We have a fairy ring in our front garden. It reappears every year- a circlet of darker, lusher grass with fungi in it.

Question 1: How long do these things last; are they eternal?

Question 2: Are they what inspired our ancestors to built henges and stone circles?

P.S. I apologise to the People of the Hills for using the "f" word. I know they don't like it.

Tweet, Tweet...

The president, sitting alone in his room (possibly in bed) lets fly an incendiary tweet, threatening the end of the world.

His minders go, "Not again" and gather round him murmuring, "Actually, Mr President..."

His next tweet, while unrepentant, says (in so many words) "Ha ha, Got you going there..."

One of those who were got going was our own Mrs May. Yesterday she was all for tagging along at the heels of the Four Horsemen. Today she has to explain why, on reflection, and after consultation....

One Of Many Cliches I'm Tired Of Hearing

Graveyards ought to be noisy places what with all the people we're constantly being told must be "spinning in their graves"

The latest deader to be sent into fast rotation is Lord Reith who- according to Cliff Richard's lawyer (he's suing the BBC)- must be deeply distressed by what the Corporation has turned into.

As it happens I spend a lot of time in churchyards and cemeteries, but I'm afraid the only buzzing I ever hear is made by bees and the occasional motor-mower.
