I couldn't decide whether the buildings were made of blue and white crockery or red-rusty steel- but it didn't really matter because they were smashed up and uninhabitable. The only undamaged structures were the hundreds of factory chimneys.

Oddly enough the sun was shining and the people who were living there seemed entirely cheerful.

One of our monitors says the temperature is -2 and the other says it's zero. But they both benefit from being up against the wall of the house and I'm sure it's colder in the open spaces. The ice on the water tubs was much thicker than it was yesterday. The sky is overcast and there was a light snowfall first thing.

Ailz set an electric heater going in our main living area and the cat was terrified and fled upstairs and hasn't reappeared.

Services are getting back to normal. Both the newspaper and the milk have been delivered.

I'm reading A Wrinkle in Time. It's a prophetic book- in the Old Testament sense of the word- forward looking- and still in advance of the essentially 19th century intellectual and religious culture of the mainstream- in its embrace of quantum physics and its conflation of science and spirituality. The movie- which is coming out later this month, I believe- looks as though it will be paradigm-breaking in all sorts of ways...
