Speak Memory....

I had a point I wanted to make and thought of a half-remembered line of verse that would illustrate it beautifully so I got down the Collected Works of the poet who'd written it and searched and searched- but when I eventually located it found it meant something completely different from what I  thought it meant and had, furthermore, been placed in the mouth of a character the poet was planning to refute.
