Lee, our nearest neighbour, is American. Last night I was going to bed and there was a big bang ("Bit late for shooting birds", I thought) and then the sky above her garden was full of starbursts. Happy 4th of July!
Fireworks are a rarity here in the country. You hear a bang and you assume its a gun. Back in Oldham, in our Asian suburb, it was different. People were always letting off fireworks, day and night, for all sorts of reasons and sometimes just because they felt like it- bang, bang, bang!
