Pootling

I've got a bit of a cold. I often get one at the turning of the seasons. There I am congratulating myself on having got through the winter unscathed and along comes a virus or a germ or whatever this is and floors me. In the dream I was having last night I understood that my cold would get better if only I talked to the man-sized balls of blue filaments called grexits.

I shouldn't have abandoned my fleecy shirts. The sun is shining but the air is still icy.

Ailz says, "You always find unnecessary things to do when you're feeling under the weather. It's as if you feel you need to prove your worth." She's quite right. I was pootling round the kitchen earlier positively looking for unnecessary things to do.

I'm reading R.K.Narayan's Waiting for the Mahatma. A young man who spends his life doing pointless things gets drawn into the fight for Indian independence and finds himself doing a different class of pointless thing. It's a very gentle book but more deeply subversive than many far angrier ones. I mean, fancy making fun of Gandhi!
