The Sense Of An Ending: Julian Barnes
Mar. 5th, 2014 09:14 amNot so much a whodunnit as a wotthehellhaveIdun. Tony Webster, our narrator, has lived a typically placid, boring, late 20th century, middle-class life. There was however this one episode- back in his student days- that disrupted the flow- his memory of which is partial and self serving.
A compelling story, but it would have been finished by the half way point if one of the characters- instead of stringing Tony along- had done the more plausible thing and given him an earful.
