Spotted on the front lawn this morning: Three fieldfare and a redwing.

The fieldfare and the redwing are closely related members of the thrush family. Both winter in Britain. Might they be hanging out- and migrating- together?

We're going home tomorrow for a week- at the back end of which Ailz will be having her interview with Atos.

We asked Jo's company to provide us with a live-in carer for my mother. There was a drama about it- the chosen carer took ill and another had to be found at the last minute- which a cannier operator than Jo would have kept from us. Actually that's something I like about her:  she has absolutely no professional gloss.

My mother says she'll miss Little Alexander's Multi-Billion Rouble Extravaganza on Ice the Sochi Olympics. I already did. Or at least I missed as much as I could without forswearing my mother's company for a fortnight. She's watching the closing ceremony now.

The Russian Federation's flag isn't a patch on the old Soviet Union's. Same goes for the anthem.

Little Alexander is all tight and shiny. He looks like a meaner version of GI Joe.

I am tired, I am weary. i could sleep for a thousand years....
