The Good Companions
Dec. 28th, 2013 08:39 amA big, bouncy, happy-making novel about theatre people. Priestley's plays still get produced- some of them- every now and then- but nobody seems to read his novels any more- which is a pity. This was his biggest hit. It stutters a bit in the second half- as if- having assembled his concert party he's not quite sure what to do with them, but up until then he's riding a rip-tide of comic invention.
