The Rudston Monolith

The tallest prehistoric monolith in Britain. It stands around 25 feet high, is made of millstone grit and has been in place for something like 4,000 years.

The Project

I log our travels in an falling-to-pieces road atlas of the British isles. Any place we've been and I've taken photographs (that last bit is important) gets a circle drawn round it. Some pages are covered in circles, others empty. Before this last trip page 27 (East Yorkshire) was very sparcely marked up; now a host of fairy rings has sprouted overnight.

The project is to get every page covered in rings. Some pages give satisfaction. Others irk. Pages 10 and 11 (Hampshire and West Sussex) are a particular source of grief. All those square miles of rolling downland and I've only got one place circled. (Netley Abbey as it happens.) Something needs to be done.
