Stocking Up For The Baby's Arrival

Peter chucked in the cold-calling job after a single day.  I'm glad.  He has other offers on the table, including one from the Park Cakes bakery

We took Odi shopping yesterday. We went to a poky little African shop that smells of long dead fish and the huge Wing Yip Chinese emporium on Oldham Road. The Wing Yip looks like a castle or temple and it's where the restauranteurs go to bulk buy. Odi got a box of frozen chicken wings and a box of frozen something else to tide them over the baby's arrival.

The Wing Yip's fun section had a shelf of Japanese lucky cats- maneki neko- all waving their paws. Fabi and I liked those.

What we have here is an album of John Player's cigarette cards, featuring the Kings and Queens of England 1066-1935. My long-legged cousin Jane was having a clear-out (putting aside childish things) and this was something she felt she could do without as she entered her teens.

It taught me the basics of English history.

Doesn't poor, old, abominably-treated Caroline of Brunswick (third from the right) look a lot like Princess Di!
