                                    BARBAROSSA

After they found their fifteen comrades

Half stripped in the frozen grass

                                    With noses, eyes and genitals

All cut away, the captain, full

                                    Of righteous indignation, ordered

                                    Every farm and village burned

And any villager shot on sight.

                                    That afternoon a foot patrol

Fired on a sleigh and three dark figures

Slumped from it.  They were all plumped up

                                    In blankets, shawls and overcoats

                                    And so of indeterminate sex.

Anybody recognise this guy?

No, it's not Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Nor is it Charles Laughton.

Give up?

His name is Henry Campbell-Bannerman and 100 years ago he was Prime Minister of Great Britain.

By all accounts he was one of the great Prime Ministers of the 20th century.

I couldn't possibly comment on that because I know nothing about him.

Even though I'm a bit of a history buff.

So, what's that you were saying about your legacy,  Mr Blair?
