So we sat in a rough circle and took turns reading a stanza of Childe Harold each.  In between stanzas we discussed what we'd just heard. I've got to confess I'd never read Byron this carefully before.

I hadn't expected him to be so intelligent.

He was the original emo-kid. For his contemporaries all this "I'm way too sensitive to live" stuff was new, fresh and exciting. It's not his fault he set a fashion.

When he reaches Waterloo he forgets himself and becomes political. This section is tremendous. Suddenly he was making my  hair stand on end.  

After class we went to the biggest book shop in Manchester. I wanted a copy of the Collected Works. They didn't have one.
