Rupert Murdoch's BSkyB has pulled its basic entertainment channels from Virgin Media's cable network. This means that Virgin's customers (including us) no longer have access to the current seasons of a number of top American shows, including Battlestar Galactica, The Simpsons, 24 and Lost.

You want to watch those shows? You have to buy one of BSkyB's nifty little dishes.

Rupert wins again- fuck him!

But I'm not going to give in. I don't give money to Murdoch's companies if I can possibly help it. When the nice lady rang me up a few weeks back and offered to deliver me the Times at very attractive rates I said ,"No thanks". And when she asked, "Why not?" I said, "Because it's a Murdoch paper". "Ah," she replied wistfully, "I'm hearing that a lot."

Luckily, I'm not watching any of those shows that Rupert just wrestled from my grasp. He can keep them. (Well, I watch the Simpsons sometimes, but it's not as funny or as crucial as it used to be.)  No,  just as long as I can still access Dr Who and Rome (both BBC) and Most Haunted (Living) I'll be happy.

I've loved this gal ever since I was a small boy and she first confronted me from the pages of Guerber's Myths of Greece and Rome.
