New Century

I was feeling low so I watched Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and it cheered me up. That movie takes me back to the happy time around the beginning of the century- before the neocons took us back to the glory days of their imperial youth- when, briefly, anything seemed possible.

Here's a poem I wrote early in 2000.

NEW CENTURY

  
I never had a plan.

I did some things that seemed cool

And when I got bored I did something else.

I’m always looking for something new.

 

Right now I’m mad for Michelle Yeoh;

It’s cool how she flies in that Ang Lee movie.

I wonder we haven’t achieved that yet.

I think we will, this century.

 

I’m mad about this century.

I want to read some books about China

I want to fly like Michelle Yeoh.


I never did read those books about China. Other things- 9/11, Afganistan, Iraq- intervened. But we'll get that mood back- won't we?
