Ailz has been told she can't drive for six weeks (at least.) Apparently you use your abdominal muscles a lot when you're driving.

It's going to be a quiet Christmas.

No rushing about, no manic cheer.

Oh good.

And not just a quiet Christmas- a quiet winter.

She's going to miss today's tutorial. I don't think travel on the buses is really an option right now- maybe when the wound has healed more.

AFter I had my hysterectomy I was told no car RIDING (never mind driving, I don't drive) until the doc cleared me- which was a month.

A quiet Christmas sounds good. And a quiet winter...think of it as hybernation, you'll emerge into spring renewed and energetic.

Seat belts present a real problem. There's no way they can be kept away from the wound.

I was hugely relieved to learn that most of the adults in my circle will *not* be exchanging gifts this year. That means a few goodies for Alice, a wee gift for her little half-sister, something decent for my in-laws, and something for John, and that's *it*. Hallelujah!

A Brit thang (as we say in Texas). I call them major annoyances, and I've learned that if you hit them exactly right, you don't have to slow down for them.

"Hemmed in" is a good description of how I feel about them. The way I used to go all the time has 10 speed bumps, but the way I go now only has two.

I hope Ailz is healing rapidly and that she continues to be as happy as she has looked in her post-op photos!

It's going to be a slow business. There's a big, wide wound and the district nurses come in every day to dress it. Getting healed is taking up all of her energy right now.

There are lots of kids round here who have nowhere to play but the streets. The speed bumps keep them safe- and for that I'm grateful.

My street gets a lot of foot and bicycle traffic (I live across from a 350-acre park), but I'm not convinced that the speed bumps make it safer. People still speed. They put the bumps in my whole area, and I think that there are other streets where it made more of a difference. Anyway, I still hate them.

I shoveled snow two weeks after I had my appendix out (this is always about me me me). My doctor was horrified. So was I, but not for the same reasons.

If one uses abdominal muscles so much when driving then why is my stomach growing? Perhaps it's all the oreo cookies I've consumed in the passing lane.
