Pesky Wabbit

I just met Bunny on the stairs. Bunny is grey and the stair carpet is grey and the stair-well is badly lit. Hmmm, some thought needs to be given to this.

He's steadily extending his territory. Yesterday he moved into the front room, where he experiences the carpet as meadowland and tries to eat it. He's a happy bunny. I know because he's been doing that capering about and leaping in the air thing bunnies do. It's called (lovely word) "binking".

He's hard to photograph. Most of the pictures I've taken make him look like an ornament off the mantlepiece. Stiff, generic. Or else he moves and becomes a slinky blur. Here's the best so far.....

I'm normally not wild about bunnies, but he is a cutie. There is indeed a touch of magic about him, as if he might suddenly disappear.

I have never wanted a rabbit before. I had no idea they could be so engaging.

A friend of mine has a rabbit, so I knew. It's fun watching you make similar discoveries.

They're such pretty creastures. And their fur is so soft.

Toshiro is very nice and MUCH better than a snake.

Much, much better....

The equivalent happy-leaping in springboks is called "pronking", I think. Words are so funny sometimes. And so is your bunny!

Why don't you let your guinea pig run free? Or would two small fuzzies roaming the house be too much?

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2005-10-15 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
The guinea pig is shy and untamed and if we let it run free it would disappear under the side-board and never re-emerge.

Actually there are now two guinea pigs. Bunny and GP weren't getting on, so we separated them and bought the GP a companion of its own species. Bad move. The new GP just chases the first GP round all day demanding sex.

Oh God, the hell of small furry animals!

Bunny Bunny!

I am not a pet person, and I don't tend to get dewy-eyed over puppies and kitties and other small furry critters -- but I have always had a soft spot for rabbits. You make me almost consider getting one. . . .

Must. Not. Give. In. To. Fuzzy. Cuteness. It's already a challenge to ensure that I give quality amounts of time, attention and affection, not to mention keep the house clean, with the small furry creature I have already -- my daughter.

Guess I'll just have to enjoy your photos and stories.

I'm not really a pet person either, but every so often I have a brainstorm.

Last one ended up with us giving house-room to eight cats. Totally mad.

But I like bunny better than any cat we ever had.

I'm happy for your rabbit with his blue meadow.

How fun, to have a rabbit hopping around the house!

I recommend it.

I'm not so sure I'd recommend guinea pigs. My mother says the ones she had as a girl were all snuggly and portable and didn't scratch- unlike ours. Perhaps GPs have evolved since the 1930s.

He is a VERY handsome bunny!

I remember when I was in kindergarten we had a *pet* bunny. He was a lot bigger than yours is (and I was a lot smaller then). I've always liked them. And you know, rabbits and kitties are good companions. I had (at one time) a devil cat I named Noleen, Eeny for short. She was a rescue and I couldn't litter train her. I had to give her back to the woman I got her from. She was white, with two little black dots on her head (where the horns would have been). Anyway, Eeny went to a home where she has a brother rabbit. They are both white. They sleep together and love each other - and I found out from my vet that this isn't unusual.

the only guinea pig I knew anything about was the one I gave my brother when he moved to Auburn - so he wouldn't be alone. Mark eventually gave HIM away, but always talked about him.

but then, my brother was like St. Francis. ALL animals loved him. I suspect you might be a bit like that, Tony.

I don't know about St. Francis- I mean all that talking to wolves business. I'm leery round big dogs and I'm not that fond of cats (in spite of having been a cat owner once) but, well, I like to have animals around- doing their thing. We've just started putting food out for the birds again. That gives me pleasure, watching them at the feeder, picking at the seeds and suet.

That is some serious cuteness you've got goin' on there! Thanks for sharing! :)

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2005-10-16 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
I never in a million years thought I'd own a rabbit. But surprises are good, right?

Depends on the surprise! But, this one, yes. :)

[identity profile] manfalling.livejournal.com 2005-10-16 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
that's awesome u let him roam free. he's just off experiencing the same world as u but in a totally different way. what a trip. and he'll have his own favourite places and places he's scared of and whatever...
wow...
mad.
i seriously want a pet...

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2005-10-17 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
I'd never have thought of getting a rabbit before.

We sort of intended the rabbit as a companion for the guinea pig, but that didn't work out- the guinea pigs are stupidly shy and edgy- and the rabbit has bonded with us instead.
