Our next door neighbour, Sameena, just had a new wheelie bin delivered by the Council. She knocked on our door first thing this morning (when I was still in my dressing gown) to ask if I'd pull it off the street once the dustmen have been. She doesn't like the idea of it having to sit out on the pavement all day.

I know just how she feels. Ailz can laugh all she wants, but it's a serious matter. Our bin has been stolen on at least two occasions- and they cost £20 to replace.

What colour is it? I remember being very taken in with the bold, if not pretty, colour of the Liverpudlian wheelie bins... (Bright purple, for thgose that don't know... VERY bright!)

I wish I had a purple wheelie bin.

My garbage cans don't roll and are gray. How dull is that?

Very dull, i must say... The bins in my block of flats are quite dull, but then; we have so MANY of them! A few for regular trash, one for paper, one for cardboard, one for glass and get this; there's even a tiny one, mounted on a steel rod, just for used batteries! I like...

We have a recycling center, and we are each given a green box for cans, bottles, and newspapers, but they don't take cardboard or magazines. I wish we could sort as you do right at our houses.

I sort. I have two recycling bins (one navy, one bright blue) from the city. I put paper in one, and glass and plastic and cans in the other. (But I don't like my food to touch on the plate, either.)

My regular trash bin is green--different sizes are different colors. The gigunda one is gray, the normal one is beige, the smallest one is green.

We have a green bag for paper and a plastic box for bottles and tins.

And the Council are talking about introducing a new scheme that would allow for even more recycling.

Ours is slate grey or black. Nothing to get excited about.

That's a huge amount of money! That would really piss me off. I'm very careless with my bin; in a neighborhood with a neighborhood association, I'm sure I'd be ticketed. But stealing! And twice!!! Are there that many people desperate for a trash can?!

Last time ours was stolen we asked for a new one and they said that just this once they'd give us a replacement for free. So that was all right.

And then I came across our old one sitting outside a neighbour's back gate and reclaimed it.

So now we have two. I put one outside the front gate and one outside the back.

Don't tell Oldham Council!

Mum's the word!

Did you ever talk to your neighbor about why your bin was outside his gate? A bad storm blew it there????
