The problem with Obama was he stood for one thing but routinely did something else. This confused people. Lots of them went on believing in him as an icon of liberalism in spite of all evidence to the contrary. One of the good things about Trump is there's no disassociation between what he represents and what he does. We all know where we stand with him- for or against. There are no grey areas, no mixed messages.

"If the trumpet gives an uncertain sound who shall prepare himself to the battle," says St Paul. Obama was that kind of trumpet. Hillary would have been such another. No uncertainty about Trump. Tan-tan-tara. And just as he's mustered his own troops so he's envigorated ours.

And look, no leaders. This is a people's movement. Somebody who's nobody in particular put it on FB or Twitter that women should march- and they did.

Eight years of Obama left me wondering whether I was still a liberal. After all, liberals seemed to be people who schmoozed with bankers and killed innocents with drones. A few days of Trump have made me happy to dig the badge out of the drawer and stick it back in my shirtfront.

I've never been comfortable with the Liberal label. I prefer Progressive.

I think most presidents say one thing and do another. That's what we like. Tell us what we want to hear then go do something practical that hopefully we'll appreciate in retrospect.

It occurred to me today what Trumplethinskin's problem is - he's not a politician. And every time he opens his mouth he pisses people off. He could have easily pulled off this immigration thing by being more politic, but he's just not capable. I think he believes the people who came to cheer him at his rallies were actually the whole of America, not just the 44% who voted for him.

And it's a shame. He actually did a good thing this week, he put limits on lobbyists. But he also shit all over what most people think America stands for so he'll get no credit for it.

It's been 9 days. 9 days, and it feels like 9 weeks. I hope you ban him.

All these labels are a bit shop-soiled. I can't say I'm entirely happy with any of them.

I didn't know he'd reined in the lobbyists. Now that is a great good thing.

Some people are suggesting it was intended to be chaotic - that it was supposed to be a disruptive and divisive 'shock event', and/or that Bannon's trying to force his own Reichstag fire.

I feel like I should offer a cynical/snarky disclaimer mentioning tinfoil, but that's probably residue from being a teenager in the '90s.
