Update

Joe has been told he doesn't have to go back to the army.

That's the main thing. We don't have to fight. The point has been conceded.

So now he gets to stay at home, drawing sick pay, until the processes have been gone through....

That is very good news. What a waste of young lives this mess has become.

I hate this "war".

I think our leaders lied to get us into it and then mismanaged things shamefully.

Oh, I'm so glad for you all. I hope he will be able to move onwards to a better life now this is sorted out.

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2005-08-30 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks.

Life can now return to something like normal...

that is wonderful. I'm sure you are relieved.

oops!

I was anonymous, this time.

So glad to hear your news.

Heh-heh- it's usually Jackie....

Thanks- we're tired but happy.

Thanks, yes- we're very relieved.

Joe is outside now, cleaning his car.

Life returns to normal.

Oh, phew. What a relief.

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2005-08-30 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
A big, big relief.

Now I just want to sleep for the next 24 hours.

[identity profile] ibid.livejournal.com 2005-08-30 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Hooray!

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2005-08-30 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Hooray
hooray.

I guess I'm surprised (but very pleased) that the Army is capable of such reason and humanity.

[identity profile] ibid.livejournal.com 2005-08-30 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose they don't want the cannon fodder image to haunt them.

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2005-08-30 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Our first contact with them - with Joe's CSM to be exact- was very off-putting. The guy was abrupt and arrogant and implied that Joe was shirking.

This new guy, on the other hand, was very much concerned with Joe's welfare- and made it plain that Joe's old regiment (and his CSM) will have no further say in the matter.

I'm relieved to hear this, my best wishes to you all.

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2005-08-30 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks.

A huge shadow has been lifted.

Oh, that's great news! Now he can rest and recover and then sort out what he wants to do with the rest of his life.

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2005-08-30 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yes.

And he does have plans. College maybe- and then work as a personal trainer or something along those lines.

[identity profile] tx-cronopio.livejournal.com 2005-08-30 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
That's wonderful news! Good for him.

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2005-08-30 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks.

Now he can get on with the rest of his life.

[identity profile] jackiejj.livejournal.com 2005-08-30 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, good. I thought about Joe first thing this morning.

So it's done--or being done. Were they kind to him?

I'm so glad you don't have to fight.

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2005-08-30 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
The guy who turned up at the house this morning is a member of a team dedicated to processing this kind of case. He was pleasant- in a rough hewn sort of a way. I feel we're in safe hands.

[identity profile] jackiejj.livejournal.com 2005-08-30 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
What a great relief. And I'm glad Joe was treated kindly.

[identity profile] queen-in-autumn.livejournal.com 2005-08-30 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
Hooray!
I'm so glad it was all resolved so quickly!

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2005-08-30 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks,

Yes, it's all happened very fast- in just over a week.

But there are still doctors to be seen and, no doubt, there'll be plenty of paperwork to fill.

[identity profile] forestdweller.livejournal.com 2005-08-30 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm so relieved for you...

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2005-08-30 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks.

I can't quite believe it's been resolved so easily.

It's been a huge relief.

I still can't get over it.

[identity profile] seaslug-of-doom.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't help but imagine that the point wouldn't have been conceded so easily in this country, the climate being what it is, and the level of common sense.

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2005-09-01 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I was surprised how easy it was...

But we're not out the woods yet. There is still a lot of bureaucracy to be got through.
