That Pointy Thing In The Middle Is The Shard

The skyline of central London from the gardens of the Horniman Museum.

Oh, oh, my old stamping ground! My last flat was a few minutes up the road from the Horniman (my new one's not too far away).

Seems like a very pleasant area of London. Great views from the top of the hill.

The Horniman disappointed us. Most of the galleries are closed until 2018.

Oh, shame! Usually it's very rewarding.

I was priced out of Forest Hill but it turns out Crystal Palace is nicer, at least from the point of view of having shops and restaurants.

I lived in Sydenham for a year, within walking distance of the Crystal Palace park- and it was very pleasant.

Mind you, I'm talking about 40 years ago.

My mum went to school round there, and finds it terribly funny that it's so hipsterish these days.

Nice to have it at a foggy distance so that all the monstrous carbuncles look a bit like an illusion. I'm with Prince Charles on architecture although I know the world is moving beyond him (and me).

I haven't seen the Shard close up but from a distance it's magical.

I think every age commits good architecture and bad architecture. It's my impression that most of skyscrapers in central London are ugly things.

I saw the same foggy view of London in reverse a couple of weeks ago: from the north in Hampsted/Highgate. It's rather like an Impressionist painting in the fog.

The Impressionists loved London and its fogs. It could have been made for them.

Precisely.

Ooh, pointy!

That is a wonderful shot - lovely juxtaposition of nature and city.

Thank you.

It was a dull day and I wasn't expecting much from this shot, but I find I rather like it.
