If he'd sung the national anthem he'd have been called a hypocrite. As it is he chose not to and he's accused of "snubbing the Queen". Can't win, can he?

Matthew Parris says he expects the Labour party to split and the Tories to split soon after- with the Blairites in both parties getting together to form a party of their own- because they have more in common with one another than with the purists of left and right. So then we'd have three main parties- a socialist party, a party of reaction (of the kind that might please Peter Hitchens) and a party of the so-called "middle-ground". It would be a more honest arrangement than the one we have at present.

I don't suppose Corbyn will ever be Prime Minister, but I'm hoping he's going to serve as the catalyst for political change.

Oh I think Parris is making it up. It's not above journalists to be making it up. I suspect all the non-Corbyn voters in the Labour party (like me) are just watching to see how he gets on.So far so good I would say.

I once read a headline that assured me that FIVE UK companies in cancer research were planning to merge. It was bollocks, and probably designed to hype all of their share prices. I know because I was working for one of them.

I dunno. I'm prepared to believe anything's possible at the moment. After all what could be more outrageously unlikely than a socialist backbencher becoming leader of the Labour party?
