The Spaniel Who Came To Call

Her name was Vita and she'd run away from home by way of a pond or ditch and was ringing wet. The tag on her collar gave me a phone number to ring- so I did- and her owners duly drove up and collected her.

But what I loved was the way she just came breezing in through the patio doors  going,  "Here I am, lovely to see you, what fun we're going to have!"

That reminds me of when my wife and I had rented a vacation cabin in Tennessee. There was a hot tub on the patio and while we were in it one afternoon a dog ran on to the patio from the woods, wagged its tail at us and then ran off (probably to say hi to the people in the next cabin!).

Perhaps it belonged to the people in the next cabin.

Except that the cabins were no pets! We think it was a local dog who would go visit its new "friends"
