Her name was Vita and she'd run away from home by way of a pond or ditch and was ringing wet. The tag on her collar gave me a phone number to ring- so I did- and her owners duly drove up and collected her.

But what I loved was the way she just came breezing in through the patio doors  going,  "Here I am, lovely to see you, what fun we're going to have!"

heh! Running into a stranger's house while dripping wet and greeting them like long lost friends? Oh yes, that sounds like a spaniel alright...

I've not had dealings with spaniels before. My parents used to specialise in corgis- and they're reserved and grumpy little dogs.

I haven't seen a corgi for years, and they're supposed to be Welsh dogs. There was a bit of a fashion for them in the 50s (queen's influence, presumably?), but then they dropped in popularity. Though there is a bit of a thing for them on the internet. Perhaps the Americans have managed to breed the grumpiness out of them?

They were designed to nip at cow heels which- in my submission- hardly makes them ideal family pets.
