Barcelona!

And, yes, we did a drive-by of some of the famous buildings by Antonio Gaudi. He's interesting, but I'm not a fan.I think he's only one step away from Disneyland.

And I don't like his religiosity.

We spent the afternoon at the Picasso Museum. I love Picasso. The museum contains a unique collection of his juvenilia- scratchy landscapes painted on the lids of cigar boxes, that sort of thing- and some stunning examples of his later work, including an overwhelming sequence of paintings from 1957 in which he measures himself against Velasquez's masterpiece, Las Meninas.

To be continued...

[livejournal.com profile] kharin and I spent a week there in 2003. Too bad you only had five hours; sorry to hear about your migraine, but in many ways, hardly a surprise when you try to cram that much in. I've never understood the "morning in Oxford, afternoon in Stratford" thing. We had a day trip to Tarragona too, I wonder whether that's coming up in your travelogue?

I've never really understood it myself. But faced with a choice between 5 hours in Barcelona and no hours at all we chose the latter. The main object of the outing was to see the Picasso museum. It was the Picasso museum that sold the whole holiday to us. And it was great. In a sense everything else was a bonus.

No, we didn't get to Tarragona.:)
