The Mail has spoken to a senior police officer (retired) who says the order to let Cyril Smith run free came from the very top. Well, of course it did.

Now Leon Brittan is dead- and beyond having his collar felt- the log-jam is beginning to break up.

I don't suppose there's much to be told that hasn't already appeared in Private Eye and on the net but it would be nice to have it all be part of the public record. The victims deserve to be believed, the public deserves to know the truth about its governors.
