And That's It

Mission completed.

The contents of the Oldham House are now sitting in my mother's garage.

It's been such a rush I haven't had time for reflection. I lived almost all my adult life (over 30 years) in the Manchester area and now I don't live there any more. I keep waiting for the emotions to hit, but for the present all I'm feeling is, "Whew, I'm glad we got that over and done with."

That's the advantage to living with one foot in one place and one in the other -- when you finally pick up the second foot it doesn't feel so much like leaving. Because you're already gone and you have a place to go home to.

Yes, it cushions the blow.

Kinda-sorta. I didn't miss the apartment we left to move into this house.

On the other hand, when we left a house to move to that apartment, it was late spring. I spent the last two hours before going to settlement wandering over the property, photographing all the flowers I'd never see again, including the biggest columbine I'd ever grown. That was hard.

It will be even harder when we leave this space, despite how small our back garden is. It includes, after all, the wisteria I started from seed the day our offer on this house was accepted. It will probably be destroyed by the new owners as they gut and redevelop the back house, along with the seedling maple.

I thought I would find this move emotionally difficult but I haven't- at least not thus far. I keep waiting for blow to fall.

It must be a peculiar feeling, perhaps not all the time but from time to time, to think, "I am all done with that chapter now."

It'll take time to sink in, I think...

Well, that's a relief with 'C' word fast approaching!

Agreed!

I have a friend who re-named it "Giftmas." I like that....

I've seen that one in use on US friends' blogs! :o)

We've reached a pact with most of the family that there will be gifts for kids but not for adults. I think we should do what we can to rein in the madness.

Onto a fresh start. :-)
