Two years ago (I was there, I participated) the people of Manchester decided by referendum that they didn't want an elected mayor.
Now a gang consisting of the Chancellor of the Exchequer and local council chiefs has declared that they're going to get one anyway.

The contempt for democracy is breathtaking.

This is a unitary authority.

75% of those who voted in the ballot on this voted against the idea.

So they went ahead and forced it on us anyway.

This they call democracy................

Good grief. So referendums are all meaningless then?

The Scots should count themselves lucky they gave the Tories the result they wanted.

This is in total defiance of normal democratic practice, which is to hold the referendum over and over again until the people give the right answer.

Those who bleat most loudly about "political correctness" are the ones who embody and deploy it. They were handed the wrong answer.
