poliphiloTwo years ago (I was there, I participated) the people of Manchester decided by referendum that they didn't want an elected mayor.
Now a gang consisting of the Chancellor of the Exchequer and local council chiefs has declared that they're going to get one anyway.
The contempt for democracy is breathtaking.
