I Felt Almost Sorry For Him

The Lib Dems are planning to get tough on controlling and abusive men.

As I went past my mother's bedroom this morning I caught a fragment of a radio interview with one of their spokesmen. The interviewer had not unreasonably segued from the new policy to the distressing and unfolding business of Lord Rennard and his wandering hands- and the interviewee was making the unmistakeable bleating noise of a politician in distress.

He speeded up his delivery, his throat constricted and these words came tumbling out: "Of course I myself have had nothing to do with this matter, but I and all the party have made it very, very clear..."

The Lib Dems might like to drop the sexism and accept that women can also be controlling and abusive. And as for getting tough on men, does that also include gay relationships, or is it only in straight relationships?

Pretty much impossible to define I'd think since most men are in a position to be 'controlling'.

I note that they're letting Rennard back into the party without even giving the women concerned a chance to put their own views to a hearing.

I used to think the Lib Dems stood for something- even if they were a bit woolly; I was wrong.
