A day after we found out that 114 documents relating to child abuse by VIPs have gone missing from the Home Office we've been told that Leon Brittan was interviewed by police last month about a rape allegedly committed in the 1960s.

One has had to be so careful about what one said about Lord Brittan. Now one can put his name in a sentence that contains the word rape and not be fearful.

First the Vatican, then the entertainment industry, now it's Westminster's turn...

And according to Wikipedia, he was the person responsible for receiving (and presumably losing) the file on the paedophile ring(and allegedly forgetting about it). Truly a law unto himself.

That's right.

At first he said he didn't remember receiving the dossier, then- when that ceased to be credible- he said he passed it on to his officials...

Hmm - knowing how large organisations manage records, especially paper records, I would believe them if they said 'it got thrown out 10 years ago as no-one had looked at it for 20 years at that point."

I don't think that'll wash in this case. These are documents of the utmost sensitivity- relating to a scandal that has never ceased to boil under.
