Pictures My Parents Took

PICT0020 - Copy

My mother in 1964 or 5- when she was in her early 40s- on the balcony of my grandparents' flat in Hove.

PICT0012 - Copy

And here's my father- same sort of period- sitting on a wall in France. I think the location is the Chateau' d' Angers.

PICT0025 - Copy.

And here are me and my sister admiring a romantic torrent in the Dordogne

That's an excellent portrait of your mother - if it's possible to judge these things without knowing her! But it feels like meeting a real person...

And yes, those towers look like Angers.

Yes, it's an excellent portrait. Congrats to my father for taking it!

I remember Angers well. They have some amazing tapestries of the apocalypse

Those really are rather good! There's atmosphere, somehow, in all of them - the angle as she turns around in the first, simple everything in the second and third.. were they in some visually-based profession, or perhaps just really enjoyed photography?

I hadn't associated Hove, Actually with high-rise buildings, but then, I only dropped by there a couple times, and that only a few years ago, primarily for a rather good real ale festival.

There are a couple of professional painters in my mother's family tree- and lots of amateurs. My grandmother was a woodcarver and my mother has always dabbled in craftwork.

My father's family had no artistic tradition I'm aware of- but he liked gadgets- including cameras.

Those high rises are blocking what would otherwise be a lovely view of the sea.
