New Project

A new project: to catch up with what's been going on in music since I stopped paying attention. I'm buying CDs in charity shops so the sampling is a bit random. Yesterday we drove to Margate listening to Kasabian and drove back listening to Franz Ferdinand.

I've tried that myself and not got very far. My good sinds have been Jack Johnson, Seth Lakeman, Grace Petrie and the Dandy Warhols.

I can recommend Kasabian and Franz Ferdinand. I like 'em both. I've no idea what I'll pick up next.

Hm! Not a bad strategy, to be sure. My problem is discovering new music I might like - but, there are helpful sites like Noise Porn with a great diversity of tracks posted as samplers.

By default, I don't buy CDs, but charity shops would seem to be a superb way of obtaining the music much more cheaply than as downloads. (Given all my listening is off the local network, a CD or BluRay will only ever be ripped and shoved away in a deep box) I'll make exceptions, of course, especially for bands I'm keen on, as with Hazel O'Connor (who even signed it for me!) and the Bonzos, both of whom have played locally recently.

I mostly listen to music in the car- so CDs make sense.

I'm not particularly musical. In fact I only ever listen to music in the car. But I feel I should know what's going on...
