We took my mother to the opticians yesterday. She has macular degeneration. Ten years ago, said the optician, there was nothing that could be done. Now there are injections.

We were listening to Al Bowlly in the car. I was hoping my mother might say, "Ooh, I know that one!" But she didn't. I wonder if she even heard. Ailz isn't keen. "You told me there wouldn't be any twiddly orchestral bits," she said, reproachfully.
