Che invited me to climb the scaffolding to have a look at the chimney breast. I got three quarters of the way up the ladder and then had a moment like the one in Vertigo where the camera pulls back while the zoom moves in- and had to come back down again. I hadn't realized I had such a fear of heights. I suppose I've always managed it by avoidance.

Jeepers, I'm glad you hung on and was able to safely climb back down!

I'm fine for the first six feet or so, then suddenly the thing comes to seem impossible.
