January, But You'd Hardly Know It

No-one visits our fields these days except Matthew and myself. He tidies up the damaged trees and I gather the branches the wind brings down. Apart from these minor adjustments Life is allowed to carry on without the intervention of human beings or domestic animals. The ground is very boggy at the moment and the streamlet has more water in it than I've seen this winter. Moles have been throwing up clusters of hills. In an angle created by the meeting of two hedges I found what I think may be irises spiking up through the ground.

Yesterday morning was mild and sunny. This morning too. Really it doesn't feel at all like winter.

Is there a footpath running through? Certainly, hereabouts, I encounter quite a few folks on such - sometimes walking dogs, sometimes just cycling for fun. (Ah, if only some government would have the foresight to go full steam ahead with extending the National Cycle Network into being a genuinely nationwide network of separated pathways.. everywhere deserves pathways as good as the Cuckoo Trail)

This is a bit of a trying time for footpaths, though, at least those not surfaced or gravelled, with all the mud and decaying leaves - definitely pays to tread cautiously, especially with a laden camera bag involved. =:)

Today, of course, I had to get out to see the buns. ^_^ No classic shots today, but good to see a few munching away, plus a guest visit from one of the local wild black rabbits. (I wonder what the genetics are regarding black fur on rabbits - presumably, descendents of escaped pets. I’d imagine that coloration will dissipate over generations toward the usual grey)

No this is private land- a few acres of it. There are tracks in it but no public rights of way.

We have lots of rabbits- living in three or four different warrens.
