I went up to bed the other night and Ailz sat up and asked me, "Qu'est que tu fais?"- which surprised me because her French doesn't normally extend beyond a Gallic grunt and shrug.  I replied in gibberish and then- when she didn't come back at me- realized she'd been talking in her sleep.

Do you think she's been a sleeper agent for the Elysee Palace all this time?

Could be. Not sure, though, that there are many state secrets to uncover down here in rural Kent.

A couple of times Ray has awakened me talking foreign languages in his sleep, which have a definite linguistic pattern and have sounded quite Chinese, which he has never studied, which makes one wonder exactly what we know in our unconscious mind that never makes it past the dreams.

I have the same question.

Ailz isn't entirely without French, but in her waking state she's most unlikely to come up with anything fluent and idiomatic.

What! A French invasion?

I'd like to see them try....

I don't want to worry you, but....

Or even more appositely...

How very peculiar.

I certainly wish more of my unconscious and superior grasp of Swedish would turn up in my waking life, if we all speak better in our dreams! How really odd that would be to experience. I've never heard anyone talking in their sleep. It would spook me, I think.
