I walked towards the sound of the guns and found- to my relief- that it wasn't some loony in the back field blasting away at bunnies but a bunch of middle-aged blokes having a clay-pigeon shoot.

So much for rural peace and quiet.

A lot of money was going up in smoke. They'd been at it all afternoon.

Ailz asked my mother if she'd ever learned to shoot and she said she'd been taught by the Home Guard.

I once won a shot gun (a good one) in a raffle. I entered the raffle not expecting to win, but rather, wanting support a work friend. So, there I was, the owner of a shot gun. I thought for awhile about learning to shoot clay pigeons. Never got around to it, though, and eventually sold the thing to a hunter friend of mine.

I do know how to shoot, though. I was quite surprised last weekend to find out that not all Americans do.

I learned to shoot as a kid- on the range at Tonbridge School. I liked to think I had an aptitude.

My dad taught me about guns when I was a kid, although he never owned one. He was a WWII veteran and hated them, but thought they needed to be respected. He taught me to shoot on those old pre-computer arcade games (you don't see them any more). I seemed to have an aptitude as well, because when I was married, and my ex-husband took me out shooting, I picked up a gun and knew what to do. I was a bit surprised at the kick, but other than that, I seemed to be an old hand at it. He was quite shocked.

I have owned guns, I know how to use one, but I don't like them, and I don't see the fun in them, and they seem poor "home protection" devices, especially since I was nearly shot by my own gun once during a burglary.

Give me a dog and a sword, any day.

I quite like guns- the history of them, the romance of them- but I've never owned one and I haven't done any shooting since I was a kid.

I'm happy to live in a society which strictly limits gun ownership.

I wish I did. Guns are quite dangerous, they can be used for absolutely nothing other than some destructive purpose, and nearly any nut or idiot can get one here. It is insane.

you never get used to the damn things

after having them hunt at the cabin and
the shooting range down the street since we moved up here
I can tell you that for a fact.

ear plugs do help some
but the dog won't let me put them in

They don't exactly upset me, but I do get a little nervy around them.
